With the plethora of plasterboard products out there on the market today, it can be hard to keep up with what’s what. You’ve got your Wetstop, Firestop, Soundstop… Multistop. So, what’s the difference between all of these products and ShaftlinerTM plasterboard?
In this post, Melbourne’s plasterboard specialists – Plaster Wholesalers – take you through everything you need to know.
We’ll explain the uses of Shaftliner plasterboard, why it’s so great, and why it might be the winning ingredient for the success of your next commercial project:
What is Shaftliner plasterboard?
Shaftliner, a product by Knauf, is a 25mm fire-resistant plasterboard made with a gypsum core with recycled blue liner paper. Shaftliner has been designed for all types of shafts where fire-resistance is required, including elevator systems, stairwells, ventilation ducts, service shafts and other vertical spaces in multi-level constructions.
What is Shaftliner used for?
Shaftliner is used for any commercial shaft where fire-resistance and soundproofing is desired. This includes:
- Fire-resistant shafts
Elevator shafts, stairwells and other shafts are often lined with Shaftliner, thanks to its thickness of 25mm and its high level of fire-resistance. Shaftliner achieves fire resistance of up to 4 hours when used in fire-rated systems.
- Soundproofing
Shaftliner also has excellent sound transfer reduction properties, and is commonly used in areas which benefit from both fireproofing and soundproofing. Areas which contain mechanical equipment, ducts and pipes are commonly lined with Shaftliner, helping to suppress the noise produced by these areas.
- Structural fire protection
It’s also used for protecting structural elements from heat and fire. In high-rise buildings, Shaftliner is crucial for protecting columns, beams and other load-bearing structures from extreme heat.
Benefits of using Shaftliner in your next commercial project
Shaftliner is a ground-breaking product with several benefits for commercial projects:
- Fire-resistant and BCA-approved
Shaftliner has been fire-tested to achieve the least fire hazard Group Number for wall and ceiling materials, as defined by Building Code of Australia (BCA) in BRANZ assessment No. FH 3473.
- Enhanced thickness for noise reduction
Thanks to its denser core and thickness of 25mm (more than double that of most ordinary plasterboard materials), Shaftliner ensures that noise from pipes and machinery won’t transfer to working or living spaces in your commercial building.
- High value
High performance plus low cost equals incredibly high value in Shaftliner products from Plaster Wholesalers.
